You promised yourself that you would run 3X a week for 20 min…..remember that? It was just about a month ago! Staying motivated to run can be a challenge, but isn’t your health and well being worth it? Here are some tips to keep you moving:
You won’t always feel great at the start, but you will almost never regret getting that run in when you are finished.
- Remember why you started in the first place. Running improves your health. You will see improved cardiovascular fitness.
- Running lowers blood pressure. It helps the arteries maintain elasticity because the arteries expand and contract 3X as much as when you are sedentary. It lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke, increases good cholesterol, decreases bad cholesterol, and lowers triglyceride levels (the chemical form of fat in your body). It aids in weight loss or maintenance, slows down the aging process, and helps to alleviate stress.
- Take another look at your short and long term goals. Have you accomplished them? If not, why not? What barriers are preventing you from getting your workout in? Maybe it’s time to re-think or re-write your goals in a way that will guarantee success.
- Find someone to hold you accountable. Whether it is a coach or a friend or family member, you are more likely to exercise if you are showing them your training log.
Take advice from the “Nike” commercial and just do it!
There is no doubt that some people like working out more than others, but the reality is that exercise is an important part of your health and well being. Find what works for you, stick to the plan, and you will reap the rewards!
